STORY
【未来編】
超高校級の絶望”による『人類史上最大最悪の絶望的事件』によってかつて世界は崩壊までおいつめられた。そんな絶望に満ちた世界を救うべく、“未来機関”が結成される。江ノ島盾子を倒した苗木誠たち78期生は、未来機関に所属することになった。そこで世界の復興のため活動を続けるが、苗木は「絶望の残党」をかばったとして反逆の罪に問われてしまう。苗木の処分のため集まった未来機関一同だったが、モノクマによって監禁され、「最後のコロシアイ」を突きつけられる。腕には奇妙なバングルがつけられ、一定時間が来ると睡眠薬が投与される。そして、この中には“裏切り者”が存在し、未来機関を殺しに来るというのだ。「生き延びるためには、裏切り者を見つけ出し、殺すしかない」 “学級裁判”というルールが存在しないコロシアイ。殺すか殺されるか、極限状態のデスゲームに、苗木たちは追い詰められていく。希望が希望を殺す絶望の物語が始まる。
【絶望編】
あらゆる分野の超一流の高校生を集め、育て上げるために設立された、政府公認の特権的な学園「私立希望ヶ峰学園」。この学園には、超高校級の才能が集まる「本科」と、高い学費を払えば誰でも入れる「予備学科」が存在していた。才能だけではなく、性格も個性的な本科77期生。しかし彼らは才能のみに固執することなく、「人生に大切なことは、才能ではなく、人との関わりで人格を磨き、思い出を作ることである」ということを学び、それぞれ普通の高校生らしく学園生活を謳歌していく。しかし、水面下では謎のプロジェクトの遂行、学園による学科差別が横行していた。そして、才能を渇望した予備学科の少年･日向創。彼に起こる運命的な出会いが、学園を、未来を予測もつかない方向へ導いてしまう。これは、人類史上最大最悪の絶望的事件に至るまでの物語。絶望で終わる、希望の物語。
【Future】
After the "biggest, most awful, most tragic event in human history" triggered by “super high school level despair" brings the world to the brink of destruction. The "Future Foundation" is formed to salvage a world full of despair. After defeating Junko Enoshima, Makoto Naegi and the 78th class become members of the institution. Naegi continues the reconstruction efforts but is accused of treason for protecting the "remnants of despair." The members of the “Future Foundation” gather to decide his fate, but they are captured by Monokuma and are forced into the “final killing game.” Bangles are attached to their arms which dispense sedatives at prescribed times. And there is a "traitor" in their midst who wants to destroy the institution. "The only way to survive is to find and kill the traitor." The death match without the “class trial.” Naegi is forced into a ruthless kill-or-be-killed situation. Hope kills hope as the story of despair begins.

“Hope's Peak Academy", a government-certified private school for the privileged, was established to enlist and nurture top-class high school students who excel in all fields. The academy consists of the “77th class” for the ultra-talented, superior students, and the “Reserve Course” where anyone who pays the exorbitant tuition can enroll. The “77th class”, are not only gifted, but also very unique. They don’t focus solely on talent, but also value the normal high school experience and are taught that “what is important in life is not only one’s abilities, but also building one’s character and creating memories through personal interactions.” But beneath the surface, a mysterious, highly discriminatory project is underway. Hajime Hinata, a student in the prep school, is hungry for talent. A fateful encounter leads the school and its future in an unexpected direction.
This is the story of the most dreadful event in human history. A story of hope that ends in despair.
